Our founder and president, John D. McKenzie, earned his college degree in horticulture and has held numerous management positions over the years in the horticultural and construction fields. For the last 25 years, he and his team have focused exclusively on providing professional landscape lighting design, installation, and service in Orlando and Central Florida.   In 2000, his son, John (Jr.), joined the company. John Jr. earned his college degree in commerce and business administration and runs the back-end of the company.  Almost all of Moonlight's business is residential and comes from existing clients and referrals from satisfied long-term customers in Orlando and Central Florida.  We have many clients that have been with us since the 90's!

Florida Law requires an ELECTRICAL license to install landscape lighting...

In Florida, landscape lighting installation requires a state issued electrical license as well as electrical insurance.  In addition, in Orlando and Orange County, landscape lighting installation requires a county construction contractor's license as well as a performance bond.  We have all of these qualifications and more.  We recommend that you research the potential contractors before you hire them.  Even if you do not choose us, we strongly recommend that you choose a properly licensed and insured company that has been in business here in Orlando or Central Florida for at least a few years.  We will provide you with a copy of our credentials and references in your when we meet with you to discuss your project.

We will go through your entire system fixture by fixture before adding any lights to repair and evaluate the current status. Halogen fixtures are still more popular due the cost and variety of products available.  Traditional halogen fixtures can cost as much as 50% less than the equivalent LED version.  Even though LED is more expensive, there is no question that the professional landscape lighting industry is shifting towards L.E.D. lighting solutions.  Professional L.E.D. fixtures consume as much as 80% less energy as conventional halogen fixtures.  The lighting elements in L.E.D. fixtures can last as long as 50,000 hours (10-20 years) resulting in no lamp changing for entire life of the fixture.  Professional L.E.D. fixtures often carry better warranties than their similarly designed halogen option.  Our most installed LED fixtures carry a 15 year warranty versus a 5 year warranty from the same manufacturer’s halogen version.  Considering the price of lamps, service calls, and warranty, many see the value of LED.  As with normal fixtures, LED fixtures vary dramatically in both fixture quality and application.  All LED products are NOT the same.  We still install more traditional fixtures than LED due to the cost vs. savings but LED is becoming more and more popular among our customers.  Due to the similar results of our high end LED fixtures, we can also mix and match with traditional for the best overall value.  For example, our LED deck lights are only $25-$50 more than our conventional version whereas an accent fixture used to light a large oak could be over $100 more.  Whether you want to go with traditional or LED products, we are here to help you and to discuss all the advantages and disadvantages of each.

We offer “Do It Yourself” options for those who are interested in doing it themselves but want professional products and/or need a little help and guidance located here in Orlando or Central Florida.  One option includes us walking your Orlando or Central Florida property with you and designing a system using your input.  This plan would specify every detail from wire size and location to bulb details and sell you all the products needed.  Another DIY option includes everything our normal design and installation services would include with the exception of burying the wire.  We will work with you as much as you need to help you design and/or install your new system.  These DIY options can save you 10-30% off our regular completely installed prices here in Orlando and Central Florida.
